Daily Confession
Forgive me Everyone, it’s been 4 weeks since my last Confession.
I have had some impure thoughts. [All those gorgeous men in suits at The Academy Awards... can you blame me?]
I may have cursed a few times [John Galliano... really?]
But perhaps my biggest sin of late is pride. We have come a long way, you and I, in showing the new, cool, fun, hipper side of Talbots. The side I know, and now you know too! Stigma is a funny [cruddy?] thing. But we have chipped away at it one pearl necklace at a time here at Red Chair Confessions. And while I’m not about to hang a “Mission Accomplished” banner, I do feel an incredible sense of achievement. And you should too!
If this is starting to sound like goodbye, well, you not only have your finger on the fashion pulse, but are super intuitive as well. RCC isn’t going away, we’re just moving the fun and the conversation over to talbots.com and Talbots facebook page. So be on the lookout for lots of new, fun, fashion content there. And be sure to become a facebook fan for exclusive offers, discount and promotions… plus see what Mary Alice Stephenson, our fave stylist and compulsive Talbots facebook poster, has to share.
Thanks for all the blog love.
No sad goodbye’s. Just so long.

But if there was ever a day to emerge from under the paperwork, today is that day. Guest Post: Holiday Magic
We at SHE: Style through Her Eyes were thrilled at the prospect of writing a guest post for Red Chair Confessions. Talbots has made several appearances on our blog in posts such as Talbots Holiday Lookbook and Talbots Spotlight DIY Contest; we consider ourselves fortunate to have the opportunity to affiliate with a retailer we value so greatly and to have our own words published on its very stylish blog. We are also immensely grateful for the kindness Talbots extended us by offering us an accessory of our choice, a gift that has made each of our holidays a little more glamorous. The holiday season can be overwhelming with all the baking, wrapping, decorating and the ever-difficult task of finding the perfect gift, but we’d like to take a moment to share with you the ways we make our holidays special and stylish.

Jen’s favorite holiday has and always will be Christmas. Almost immediately after it has passed she wishes it would come around again and looks forward to it all year! Her favorite thing about Christmas is spending time with family, eating delicious food, choosing a new outfit for Christmas, and basically everything that would fall under “Christmas festivities”. She can’t ever get enough of all the music, movies, decorations, treats, and of course shopping! Some of her favorite memories from her childhood include watching Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer while eating Rice Krispies treats with her family, decorating the tree, going to the Christmas-themed church service and hearing her dad and the band play songs celebrating Jesus’ birth, going to her Uncle’s house on Christmas Eve, and waking up Christmas morning to an overflowing stocking and beautiful presents under the tree. Jen and her siblings were always anxious to open the “star present” which was the last and best present they were given after all the others had been opened. One year they had to go on a treasure hunt and found a brand new Nintendo 64 in the closet along with Star Wars Podracing and Diddy Kong Racing games! Jen’s parents have always made each Christmas the best one yet! Growing up, Jen’s family often had their Christmas tree and decorations up almost right after Thanksgiving and Jen has continued that same tradition in her own home with her husband Jason. He also loves Christmas and enjoys decorating the tree and drinking eggnog. Together they enjoy listening to Christmas music whenever they’re on the road and watching classic Christmas movies like Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman and The Little Drummer Boy. As much as Jen loves Christmas now, she knows she will come to love it even more when she is able to share the joy with her own children someday.
Some of Jen’s favorites from the Talbots holiday collection include the Faceted Gem and Rhinestone Necklace, the Ruffle Tweed Skirt and the Plaid Brushed Wool Coat.

The holidays are a very special time, meaning many different things to people all over the world. For Casee Marie, it’s a reminder to cherish the little blessings we receive through life and the simplicity of human connection. It’s a time for family traditions, memories and plenty of shopping, but it’s also a time when the world is enveloped in warmth and kindness. Whether by the festive candles or holiday decorations, life seems to glow with a soft golden light during the season. It’s the gentle sparkle, the comfortable warmth and the powerful sense of compassion that make the holidays special for Casee Marie. For these reasons among many others she was drawn to the Talbots holiday collection immediately upon viewing the looks in the catalog. Remaining classy and sophisticated in the way for which Talbots is famous, her favorite pieces bring together the different styles she loves while also illuminating the many elements that she strives to capture every time the holiday season comes around. The Metallic Trench is a festival of golden glitz tied into a style reminiscent of the golden era of Hollywood with large buttons, statement-making lapels and a wide belt that draws the coat into a timeless silhouette. Equally classic is the Rose-Print Dress, which offers a retro shape with a new twist in the flirty floral pattern. The low neckline allows for a statement necklace such as the Ribbon Bib Necklace, a favorite of Casee Marie’s in the way the ribbons and jewels contrast, melding into one piece that’s simultaneously soft and strong. These are the pieces that capture the holiday spirit as seen by Casee Marie. While moving to a new city gave her many distractions this year, she fondly felt the warmth of her favorite season through the glamorous medium of fashion and the joy of a quiet holiday spent with family.
We regret that Karen, the third member of SHE, was unable to contribute to this guest post due to travel and the rush of the season. She was very excited to be part of this project, and she joins us in her gratitude for the invitation to contribute to Red Chair Confessions. We’re so happy to be here! From all the ladies of SHE, we hope you enjoyed this reflection on our holidays and festive style, and we offer you our very best wishes for a happy holiday season and a wonderful new year!

Guest Post: Timeless Glamour
{Timeless Glamour}

Hi! Lisi from The Beauty File blog here to guest blog for you today! As the holidays approached, I realized just how much I had to be grateful for this year. In September I gave birth to my first child, Charlie. As much as life could prepare me for this milestone, holding my son in my arms is truly the most incredible blessing in the world. I’m also so, so grateful for all the love and support I receive from my family and friends on a daily basis.
On another note, as a fashion blogger, I’m always appreciative of amazing style and the new trends that appear each season. I’m constantly on the hunt for the latest “it” brands and was so pleased to recently rediscover Talbots as such. I’m a glamour girl so whether it’s timeless, everyday or winter, glamour is always “in.” These are some of my favorite looks from the Talbots site. I invite you to share what you’re grateful for this season and to join me in appreciating these styles from Talbots.

Guest Post: A Return to Denim
2010 was a year of transformation and upheaval for me. This year dished up new projects, personal illness, professional triumphs and challenges, lost friendship, renewed friendship, family strife, and lots and lots of gorgeous new shoes. Most of the reactions that accompanied these fluctuations were what you’d expect: Exhaustion, exhilaration, emotional ups and downs. And throughout it all, I was able – rather miraculously, I might add – to maintain a healthy, happy relationship with my body. Stress often causes me to focus on my perceived body flaws, obsess and fret, and spiral downward into self-loathing. But this year was a good year, body-image wise. And I’m immensely grateful.
One unexpected factor in my ongoing body happiness? A pair of jeans that Talbots sent me a few months ago. I have written several posts about my hatred of pants, and have long considered my self a skirt girl. I believe that women should seek clothing that works with, not against, their natural shapes. I also believe that pants fight me. With fists and tear gas and large blazing guns. And although several friends and lovely readers of my blog, Already Pretty, have mentioned that perhaps I just hadn’t found the RIGHT pants, I stuck to my story. Pants hate me, and I hate them right back.
My pair of Heritage Fit Midnight Rinse straight-leg jeans have changed my views on pants. I’ve got about eight pairs of jeans gathering dust in my chest of drawers. All of them pull, pinch, gape, or muffintop the living daylights out of me. But these jeans? They hit just high enough on my waist to actually feel comfortable, flatter my hips, elongate my legs, and just generally make me feel like a jean queen. And although I still tend towards skirts and dresses, just knowing that I own a pair of jeans that love me as much as I love them has shifted my body image a smidge. Those jeans reminded me that nothing about personal style is ever set in stone. And for that, I’m grateful.
Thanks to Talbots for a gift that goes beyond denim, and for helping make 2010 a year of unexpected transformation.

Guest Post: The Journey of Gift Giving
Despite my inclination to self-indulge, I gotta admit, it truly is better to give than receive. Today’s guest post, by the super cute [and hardly messy], Big Beautyful Mess, gets to the heart of gift-giving, plus offers all sorts of gift ideas, for all sorts of people! Without futher ado… BBM!
Gold, myrrh, and frankincense. The first three gifts that were given out of grateful hearts starting an all-time tradition practiced every yuletide season. I can just imagine the wise men tediously hand-picking each gift, ensuring that each offering symbolizes their affection and their new-found hope towards the extraordinary babe in the manger. How was it presented? Wrapped in papyrus maybe? Or a jeweled box? How long did it take them to find the best merchant? Did it cost them little? Or did it cost them their all? ‘Tis the journey of gift-giving. And it’s a journey all of us holiday-lovers anticipate each and every year.
Abundant questions arise when meticulously inspecting a future gift for that special someone. And we can only hope that its not a regift-friendly item! Every choice and selection, we make certain each detail or every stitch will help the recipient feel remembered and loved. We dream of that special loved one opening the carefully wrapped package and imagine their reaction. I live for Christmas morning reactions by the way – hoping that it’s the perfect greeting of “Merry Christmas” and “thank you for being in my life.” If it buys a genuine, small moment where hearts are bonded together to enjoy the season of joy and good tidings, it’s priceless.
I have been stalking Talbots stores and website ever since I got my hands on the 2010 holiday lookbook. Talbots sure does know how to treat us ladies … and the Hubs can definitely take a few lessons! Below are my favorite, exceptional gift-giving items for that special loved one on our lists.
For the romantic artist, a.k.a. my lil’ sis:
For the hardworking mom, a.k.a Ms. Cristi, my lovely friend and second mom. A reminder that she also, needs to take care of herself:
For the plain Jane in my life, a.k.a. Janelle. I’ll have to convince her and remind her that it is still black…
For the Diva, a.k.a. Kim, my faithful go-to friend whenever I need a laugh (or cry). I can just see her snapping her fingers away with this fabulous metallic trench:
Last but not least for moi. We can’t forget about ourselves right ladies? A classic trench, but in navy blue:
Enjoy your gift-giving journeys this year everyone and I wish you the best Christmas morning reactions ever!
Thank you Talbots for this guest-post opportunity and an unbelievable accessory of my choice!

Guest Post: A Very Good Year
I gotta admit, sometimes I can be a little jaded about the Holidays. But this guest post by Lauren Bryan Knight, aka the fabulous Aspiring Kennedy, has me feeling all warm and fuzzy. If you ever needed some encouragement to jump right in, embrace change, live the life you want, well, here you go…
As the year comes to a close, I can’t help but look back and think of this year as a year of change… really good change.
Between family health issues, toxic work environments, & mundane gossip circles: 2009 wore me thin {except for the 10 pounds I actually gained that year}.
The weird thing is, I think most of us had a fairly rough year in ‘09. Blame the economy. That Christmas, my conservative, buttoned-up, family heartily toasted to “2010 not sucking as much as 2009″ over Christmas dinner.
And you know what? It didn’t. In fact, this year was great. It’s Christmas of 2010, and I feel like I’m sitting up from the massage table. I’m relaxed and lightheaded with delight… albeit, less oily & clothed.
Yes, 2010 was that good.
This year, I started a blog, I quit my job, I moved to England, made personal steps in my faith, and after all the upheaval, I have to tell you:
I have never been happier.
I’m totally refreshed by the change of scenery, the change of pace, & the change of characters.
This Christmas, here are some of the “new” things that I am loving!
New Home:
Sure it’s cold- and my Texas roots are craving chili….
but there isn’t any place I’d rather be than England this Christmas.
{Plus, we have things like clotted cream & Harrod’s here.}
New Love:
So we’ve actually been married for 4 years, so it’s not technically “new love”…
but we can’t keep our hands off each other.
Moving away together was the best thing we ever did.
These days, it’s just me & him.
New Goals:
Who cares about being “Next-In-Command?”
I’ve re-adjusted my goals to be “Most-At-Peace…”
because life is too short for office drama.
{And the pay’s not that great anyway.}
New Looks:
Sometimes, a fresh start is just what the doctor ordered.
Especially when it’s a new look for something you already love.
Like when I walked into Talbots last week- on a surprise trip to Dallas.
The place is transformed for Christmas… and it’s chic. Like VERY chic.
And it’s addicting.
Which may explain why these Ariana heels are now on my wish list!
I hope 2010 has been a great year for you, too. If not, raise your glass and hope for a fresh start & bright change in 2011. Change is waiting for you in the New Year!
Yours Truly,
It’s been a pleasure to contribute at Red Chair Confessions, and thank you, Talbots, for the gifting me with the accessory of my choice.

Guest Post: Holiday Hurdles
It’s the most wonderful time of the year… right? Well we’ve enlisted some of our favorite bloggers to give us their tips for shopping, bopping and and party hopping our way through the holidays. First up… The ever-chic Deja Pseu… tackling the Holiday Hurdles of what to wear. Take it away DP…
At this time of year, the pace of life often moves with the speed and fury of a steeplechase. Between working, shopping, cooking, wrapping, addressing cards, volunteering, decorating and traveling, the holidays can start to feel like one long series of hurdles to clear. So when I start to get my Grinch on, I try to remind myself not only to stop and smell the rum balls, but to put the important stuff first (family, friends, fun) and find ways to streamline the rest.
Simplifying my wardrobe is one way I‘ve helped reduce my stress levels, and I’ve been looking for one or two key pieces that will do double- or triple-duty for the holiday festivities. One of my favorites this year is this Talbots lace top.
This is a fabulous, flattering and versatile piece that can take you through the season in style. For example…
The Office Party
Whether your annual workplace holiday celebration is a white tablecloth dinner with the Big Bosses, or something a bit more, uh…bacchanalian, you’ll want your look to maintain that balance between Party and Professional. Pair the top with this Blackwatch plaid pencil skirt
and some patent pumps if your work environment leans more toward the Corporate side of the dress code spectrum, or with a pair of tuxedo pants and your favorite party heels or embellished ballet flats for less formal gatherings. (Don’t be afraid to wear navy and black together; it’s a very sophisticated combination.)
Throw a sparkly cardigan over top if you get chilly.
Holiday Dinner at the In-Laws
Does “Mom” pull out all of the stops (fine china, crystal stemware, hand-lettered place cards) for the big holiday meal? Start with the lace top and add a full skirt, some heels and a multi-strand pearl necklace.
(Now, if only you can avoid being seated next to Uncle Bobby, whose sole topic of conversation is golf…)
Or maybe they’re fondue-and-charades-by-the-fire types? Pair your lace top with dark wash narrow jeans, a fun cocktail ring and bow-trimmed flats. You’ll be casual enough for comfort, yet dressed up enough to acknowledge a special occasion.
New Year’s Eve
For more low-key celebrations, you can go with those tuxedo pants and party heels again and bring out the sparkly jewelry. But if your New Year’s plans call for Full-On Dazzling, well, sometimes nothing short of sequins will do…
Do you have a favorite holiday look that includes a Talbots piece? You can submit a photo of yourself over at Spotted DIY and be eligible to win a $250 gift card!
Happy Holidays, Everyone!
I’d very much like to thank Talbots and Red Chair Confessions for inviting me to share these holiday inspirations, and thanks to Talbots for giving me the accessory of my choice as consideration for this post. –Deja Pseu
